No Visa Needed For Many Health Tourists
Visas requirements are a typical concern for medical tourists visiting Thailand – However in most cases no visa is required – Thanks to Visa Exemptions.
Visa exemptions: As of 2025, up to 93 countries are granted exemptions for visitations to Thailand – meaning a person does not need to make any plans in advance, they can simply show up at the airport and get 60 days in Thailand on arrival. Furthermore, visitors can easily extend their exemption status for 30 days by taking a trip to one of the Thai immigration Centers. Giving people a total of 90 days in Thailand with a visa exempt status.
For people on visa exempt status, getting medical, dental, or any type of elective care is perfectly fine – And with up to 90 days available, this amount of time will cover a the vast majority of medical tourism visits. All a person will need is a valid passport with at least 6 months before expiration, a return or onward ticket, and proof of funds (Proof of funds is very rarely requested).

Visa Invitation Letters
For those that are from countries in which visa exemptions are not offered, there are many options such as tourist visas or medical visas for health tourists. Health Tours Thailand is able to expatiate the process of acquiring visas for our customers with the help of our partner hospitals who issue VILs (Visa Invitation Letters).
The process is as follows:
- Contact Health Tours Thailand with a legitimate medical, dental or elective healthcare need.
- Health Tours Thailand will find the most appropriate option and book an appointment at hospital in Thailand for treatment (a passport and medical records may be needed at this stage).
- The corresponding hospital where treatment will be procured will issue a letter of invitation on official letterhead for the Thai Embassy.
- The patient will take the visa invitation letter and submit an application to the Thai embassy in their country (tourist visa, medical visa or otherwise).
By following this process, not only will a visa almost always be granted – the process to obtain a visa will be sped up greatly. Instead of 45 days or longer waiting for issuance, a visa invitation letter can expedite the process to as little time as 1 week (especially if it is an urgent healthcare situation).
