Vejthani – The Leader in Car T-Cell Cancer Therapy
Vejthani is one of the only hospitals in Thailand that offers Car T-Cell therapy, a groundbreaking, US-FDA approved, immunotherapy (non radiation, non chemotherapy) cancer treatment which is proven to effectively treat blood cancers such as Leukemia, lymphoma, or multiple melanoma. The scientists that paved the way for its creation won the Nobel Prize in 2018, offering hope to millions (James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo were awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine for their work on cancer immunotherapy, which in turn set the stage for CAR T-cell therapy to become a reality).
In 2024 Harvard awarded the four pioneering scientists $500,000 USD and the Warren Alpert Prize (Renier Brentjens, Zelig Eshhar, Carl June & Michel Sadelain) for their working in developing Car T Cell treatments which have since saved the lives of thousands of both children and adults with blood cancers .
Car T-Cell treatments however are not available in most countries, and in the countries where it is available, the cost is a significant barrier. In the United States for example, Car T-Cell treatment can cost up to $1 million USD or more, often not covered by insurance or only partially covered. In Thailand, the cost of Car T-Cell therapy is less than half of the US, typically ranging between $150,000-$500,000 – Offering significant savings for people and also a potential lifeline.
*People that are good candidates for Car T-Cell therapy are those that are in the late stages of cancer and have run out of options, people who want their cancer to stay in remission (Car T therapy has been proven to sustain long lasting remission) & those that are not able to tolerate chemotherapy or radiation. Currently Car T is used only for various types of blood cancers, however research is ongoing to use its proven healing abilities to treat solid tumors*
